Cancer center director candidate interview

The search committee for the next director of the Johnson Cancer Research Center announces the interview schedule for candidate Linda Malkas, dean of translational science and external affairs at the City of Hope Beckman Research Institute in Duarte, California.

Malkas will visit K-State Thursday, Jan. 31, and Friday, Feb. 1. She will present a talk on her research and her vision for the future of the cancer research center at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in 227 K-State Student Union. An open session for center faculty affiliates will immediately follow the talk at 9:30 a.m. in 227 K-State Student Union.

Malkas holds the rank of professor of molecular and cellular biology and has previously served as both associate director for basic science and deputy director, research at the City of Hope NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Her research spans basic studies on proteins involved in DNA replication in human cells, mechanisms of action of anticancer agents that affect DNA synthesis, identification of novel biomarkers for cancer risk, and translational work to identify new molecular therapeutics for cancer. Her current research is funded by the American Cancer Society, the Department of Defense, and several private foundations. She serves on advisory committees and review panels for the Federal government as well as journal editorial boards and advisory committees for other cancer centers.
