Welcome back Wildcats: 2017 Week of Welcome offers events for new, returning students

A variety of events will welcome new and returning students to the K-State campus during Week of Welcome.

The official Week of Welcome kickoff is the New Student Convocation at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Bramlage Coliseum. A tradition that dates back to the 1950s, Convocation is an opportunity to formally welcome first-year students to K-State. The program will include talks from President Richard Myers, Provost and Senior Vice President April Mason, faculty, current students and K-State alumni. 

A pep rally and free dinner will follow the convocation at 7 p.m. at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Other Week of Welcome events include:

Saturday, Aug. 19

  • Housing and Dining Services will host the official move-in day at the residence halls.
  • The annual pancake feed will start at 10 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Enjoy a night of fun, games and pancakes.
  • Walk Your Class Schedule will be from noon to 3 p.m. and will start on the first floor of the K-State Student Union.

Monday, Aug. 21

  • Student assistance booths will be set up across campus from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help answer questions. Stop by and pick up a free Insomnia Cookie.
  • UPC will host an eclipse event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bosco Student Plaza. Enjoy live music, free Insomnia Cookies, goggles and giveaways, while supplies last.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

  • Grab a popsicle and get directions from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event has multiple locations around campus. 
  • Enjoy games, prizes and receive information about health and wellness organizations at K-State during Health-A-Palooza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Coffman Commons.
  • Hypnotist Matt Grisham will perform at 7 p.m. in the K-State Student Union Ballroom on the second floor.

Wednesday, Aug. 23

  • Join the Career Center for a cookout from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Berney Family Welcome Center North Lawn. Enjoy a free lunch, meet your career advisor and pick up a free T-shirt — while supplies last.
  • Pet Away Stress will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Waters Quad. Pet some dogs, make new friends and relax between classes.
  • Do Not Pass Go!: A Real Life Board Game will start at 7 p.m. at Hale Library. Make your way around Hale Library's five floors and take on a challenge at each level. Conquer all five stations and gain entrance to prizes and games in the Great Room. The first 250 students to complete their game board will receive a T-shirt.

Thursday, Aug. 24

  • The Part Time Opportunities Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. Visit with representatives and community employers hiring for part-time jobs, internship positions and volunteer opportunities. The fair is hosted by the Career Center. 
  • Fall Activities Carnival and Expo, "Shine Bright at K-State," will be from 6-8 p.m. at the K-State Student Union. Explore more than 150 student organizations and clubs and enjoy giveaways and more.
  • Outdoor Film: "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will show at 8:30 p.m. in Bosco Student Plaza. Bring a chair or blanket. Rain location will be in Forum Hall on the ground floor of the K-State Student Union.

Friday, Aug. 25

  • Join UPC for an International Block Party on Johnson Terrace north of the K-State Alumni Center. The event will include a DJ, games, prizes, henna artist and food samples. Rain location will be at the K-State Alumni Center.

Saturday, Aug. 26

  • The Wildcat Run for Wellness 5K will start at 8 a.m. at the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex. Winners of the various age categories will receive prizes.
