Streetscape design progress in the North Campus Corridor

Submitted by Ruth Dyer

Dear K-State Community,

We recently shared with the campus the Final Report of the North Campus Corridor Master Plan PDF. We also want to provide an update on some of the next steps taking place related to the implementation of this Master Plan.

In May 2015, President Kirk Schulz presented preliminary outcomes of the North Campus Master Planning process to the Manhattan City Commission. In his presentation, President Schulz proposed a continuation of the partnership for the North Campus Corridor infrastructure improvements by engaging consultants to move from the conceptual phase to the design phase.

The Manhattan City Commission authorized city staff to engage consultants to reach a point in the construction planning process to determine construction specifications and costs. BG Consultants, Schwab Eaton, and Confluence have been contracted to develop 30 percent design plans for the corridor, including the streetscape, landscape, street design and lighting on College Avenue, Kimball Avenue, Denison Avenue and North Manhattan Avenue. The consultants have used the master plan developed by the Perkins+Will team as a foundation for their designs, and K-State constituents have been consulted to provide direction on aesthetics.

At the Manhattan City Commission Work Session at 5 p.m. Dec. 22, President Schulz and the contracted consultants will provide a project update. The Work Session will be in the Commission Room at City Hall, 1101 Poyntz Ave. Campus and community members are welcome to attend and provide feedback on the designs.

Sincerely,
Ruth A. Dyer, Ph.D.
Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
Chair, North Campus Corridor Master Plan Task Force
