Weekend police activity, reminder of services available

Submitted by Don Stubbings

Several incidents regarding safety and security occurred between Aug. 22-24. We remind our students and campus community of free services available and provide a few crime prevention tips.

Driving under the influence
The Kansas State University Police Department made four arrests Aug. 22-24 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Impaired driving kills 28 people a day nationwide. Safe Ride, a free service, provides students and their guests with a safe alternative to drunken driving and other threatening situations to save lives and prevent injuries and damage to property.

Battery report
In the early morning hours of Aug. 24, a female was walking in the northeast part of campus and was grabbed by an unknown male subject. This is believed to be an isolated incident and no further similar reports have been made. We remind the community of Wildcat Walk, a free service to the K-State community. Call 785-532-6412 or 785-395-SAFE (395-233). K-State police or a security officer will provide a walking escort up to two blocks off campus. Services for students affected by these types of crimes also are available through the newly established Center for Advocacy, Response and Education.

Thefts
K-State police responded to several bicycles thefts last week. To help prevent bicycle theft register your bicycle with parking services, purchase a good "U" lock and do not use a thin cable type lock and only park in designated areas.
