The Johnson Cancer Research Center at Kansas State University raised more than $8,000 during the recent Kaw Valley Rodeo. This achievement was made possible through the generosity and support of the Kaw Valley Rodeo Association, rodeo participants and the attendees who contributed to the cause.

The highlight of the fundraising efforts was the "Pass the Boot" event, where volunteers passed pink cowboy boots through the crowd, collecting donations from generous rodeo-goers. The contributions received during this event will play a critical role in advancing cancer research efforts.

Joshua Kinder, vice president of the Kaw Valley Rodeo Association, shared his personal connection to the cause: "Having lost my dad to cancer, and witnessing several other family members battle the disease, I deeply understand the necessity of ongoing cancer research. We at the Kaw Valley Rodeo Association are honored to support the Johnson Cancer Research Center's crucial work in the fight against cancer."

The money raised will help fund innovative research projects, support student researchers, and facilitate training and public outreach. These resources are essential for the continued progress in understanding cancer and developing innovative therapies.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Kaw Valley Rodeo Association for their partnership and to everyone who attended and donated," said Sherry Fleming, director of the Johnson Cancer Research Center. "The funds raised will support our mission to conduct cutting-edge cancer research, ultimately leading to better treatments and improved outcomes. The cure starts with us: scientists, students and supporters."

For those who were unable to attend the event but still wish to contribute, donations can be made through the Johnson Cancer Research Center's website
