Beach Museum of Art’s exhibition 'wood+paper+box in your hands' receives glowing review

Submitted by Jui Mhatre

The Beach Museum of Art staff shares that a review of the exhibition "wood+paper+box in your hands" appeared in Openings: Studies in Book Art published by the College Book Art Association.

Openings is a peer-reviewed online journal that features critical and historical articles and exhibition reviews on book art and its connections to the broader art world and related fields, such as poetry, graphic design, printmaking, digital media, and other textual and visual disciplines.

Kimi Kitada, curator and arts educator based in Kansas City, reviewed the exhibition for the journal. Kitada is currently the gallery and programs manager at Charlotte Street Foundation. Read the PDF review.

"wood+paper+box in your hands" features works by the collective wood+paper+box, comprised of accomplished printmakers Katie Baldwin, Mariko Jesse and Yoonmi Nam. Highlighted in the exhibition is the 2023-2024 Beach Museum of Art Gift Print, commissioned as part of the museum's initiative to offer local collectors the opportunity to purchase works on paper by outstanding Kansas artists at below-market prices. Artworks by wood+paper+box carry the spark born of shared experience and are created through collaboration, interaction and friendship. They offer the idea of appreciating art not just by looking but also by touching and participating. In the exhibition, visitors can handle and interact with a sample gift print.

The 2023-2024 Beach Museum of Art Gift Print is available for purchase to the public. Friends of the Beach Museum at any level receive a 25% discount on the price. For more information about becoming a Friend or purchasing a gift print, please call 785-532-7718 or email beachart@k-state.edu.
