Registration is open for Summer Advising Institute

Submitted by Morgan Greene

The Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs' Department of Academic Advising will host the 2024 Summer Advising Institute from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the K-State Student Union.

Advising Institutes provide an opportunity for professional development focusing on academic success at K-State and connection within the advising community. This institute's keynote will focus on "Strengths in Advising."

Presentation proposals are accepted through 5 p.m. April 24 and may be submitted online. Proposals should enrich advising practices for new and experienced advisors. Suggested presentation topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Relational skills and communicating with advisees.
  • Student population advising, data and research.
  • DEIB initiatives intersecting with advising.
  • Tips and tricks when using technology in advising.
  • Utilizing student success tools and resources with students.
  • Financial, social and emotional well-being of students and/or advisors.
  • First-year experience and advising.

Online registration for the institute is now open. Lunch is provided to those who attend in person; limited virtual options are also available.

More information about Advising Institutes is available online. Questions can be directed to Ashley Blake, advisor training administrator, at ablake@k-state.edu.
