Renowned criminologist to speak Thursday

Submitted by Travis Linnemann

Jeff Ferrell, emeritus professor at Texas Christian Univeristy, will give a talk at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in Room 1088 of the Business Building.

In this talk, Ferrell recounts the decades he has spent as a daily dumpster diver, noting the remarkable range of items he has salvaged from urban trash bins, and more broadly analyzing the social, economic and legal dynamics that make dumpster diving both necessary and problematic.

Author and editor of more than a dozen books and dozens of articles and chapters, Ferrell is the co-founder of the award winning journal Crime, Media, Culture and the Alternative Criminology series at New York University Press.

In recognition of his sustained and distinguished scholarship, teaching and service in the field of critical criminology, in 2018 the American Society of Criminology, Division of Critical Criminology recognized Ferrell with its Lifetime Acheivement Award.
