Johnson Cancer Research Center now accepting applications for fall semester awards

Submitted by Marcia Locke

Kansas State University’s Johnson Cancer Research Center is now accepting applications for its fall semester awards.

The center supports the research and training of affiliated faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows through competitive award programs. All affiliated faculty are eligible to apply and sponsor applications of their students. Unaffiliated K-State faculty conducting cancer-relevant research are invited to become affiliates and apply for awards.

Innovative Research Awards provide faculty with seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for future major grant proposals. Other awards provide modest funds for equipment and travel to learn new scientific techniques or visit collaborators at other institutions. Awards are also available to assist with travel expenses for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to present at professional meetings.

Undergraduate students may apply, along with affiliated faculty mentors, for the Cancer Research Award program. Awardees work on research projects in their mentors’ laboratories and receive $1,000 awards in late spring. Mentors also receive $1,000 per student for research expenses.

Award information and application forms are on the center’s website at cancer.k-state.edu/awards/. The deadline for submission is Oct. 1.

The center’s awards are funded solely by private donations.
