K-State Libraries faculty and staff recognized for excellence

Submitted by Cailin Wycoff

Carol Sevin, academic services librarian, received the Brice G. Hobrock Distinguished Faculty Award.

K-State Libraries recently honored three employees — Cindy Von Elling, Alice Anderson and Carol Sevin — for outstanding service.

Von Elling, library assistant III, was chosen as the Support Staff of the Year. The award recognizes a support staff employee's special contribution, dedication to daily tasks and ability to work successfully across the organization.

One nominator said of Von Elling, "Cindy has helped my student in our biology class find library resources and documents online. Her kindness and attention to detail have allowed my students to succeed."

Anderson, instructional designer II, received the Lori Goetsch Professional Staff Award. The award recognizes a nontenure track professional's contributions to K-State Libraries in the previous two academic years.

Anderson has been an integral part of the Libraries' efforts toward AI education, notwithstanding her own duties. One nominator said of her efforts, "Alice excels in every aspect of her role as an instructional designer. Her approach to the core of her job makes her an invaluable team player. This goes beyond her individual consultations. I don't think she knows how much she helps our patrons directly and indirectly."

Sevin, academic services librarian, received the Brice G. Hobrock Distinguished Faculty Award. Annually, the award recognizes outstanding librarianship and superior accomplishments among the K-State Libraries faculty.

As a librarian, Sevin works with colleagues across many disciplines, including biochemistry, chemical engineering and plant pathology. She also is a member of the Libraries' AI(brarians.) One colleague said of Sevin, "Carol is the most impactful librarian I know. She seems to have inexhaustible energy for combining her incisive intellect, boundless creativity and deep knowledge to connect people to each other and to the information and skills they need to meet their goals."

Each winner receives a monetary prize, and their names are added to award plaques in Hale Library. All awards are funded through the Friends of the K-State Libraries.
