Weekly global religious, spiritual and nonreligious observance information

Submitted by David Yetter

The President's Committee on Religion, Spirituality and Nonreligious Diversity presents the global observance information for Sept. 4 to Sept. 10.

Krishna Janmashtami, Sri Krishna Jayanti or Janmashtami — Wednesday, Sep. 6. Tradition: Hinduism. Celebrates the birthday of Krishna. According to the Hindu epics, Krishna was the eighth incarnation of the God Vishnu, opposed to the demon Kansa, who was responsible for the increase of evil in the world. Worship of Krishna is characteristically expressed in dance and song.

Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos — Friday, Sept. 8. Tradition: Christianity-Orthodox. Commemorates the birth of the Virgin Mary.

The President's Committee on Religious, Spiritual and Nonreligious Diversity welcomes those of all global religious, spiritual and nonreligious commitments. Further, we welcome any suggestions, questions or other comments. Please contact the committee's interim chair, David Yetter, at dyetter@k-state.edu
