Celebrating Joyce Vanier Hale

Submitted by Cailin Riley

Joyce was born Feb. 22, 1926, to John Jacob Vanier and Lesta Kauffman Vanier in Salina, Kansas.

Join K-State Libraries and Joyce and Joe Hale’s Cornerstone Café in celebrating the life of Joyce Vanier Hale, who passed away June 19.

To honor her memory, the café, located in Hale Library, will offer free drip coffee and one free cookie per person on Monday, July 10, while supplies last. On July 10-14, a special, limited-edition cherry and vanilla latte, named Joyce and Joe's Latte, will be available for purchase.

Joyce was born Feb. 22, 1926, to John Jacob Vanier and Lesta Kauffman Vanier in Salina. She married Herman Darrell "Joe" Hale on Sept. 15, 1951. Together, they raised six children and successfully grew a flour milling business.

The Hales made an essential gift toward the expansion of Farrell Library, and in recognition of their support, the library was renamed Hale Library. After the 2018 Hale fire, the Hales made another donation that allowed for the construction of Joyce and Joe Hale's Cornerstone Café.

Thank you to K-State Housing and Dining Services for providing support.
