Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Kurt Gartner, vibraphone, and Amy Guffey, clarinet, will premiere a duet composed by Steve Riley at the International Clarinet Association's annual conference on July 9 in Denver, Colorado. The piece was commissioned by Gartner and is dedicated to Tod Kerstetter, who served as K-State professor of clarinet from 1999-2021.

Guffey serves as instructor of clarinet at K-State. Her career as a clarinetist has taken her to South Korea, Europe and throughout the United States.

Gartner serves as associate director of the music program and professor of percussion at K-State. He teaches applied percussion and percussion methods. He also directs the Percussion Ensemble, Keyboard Percussion Quartets and the Latin Jazz Ensemble.
