Writing Center tutoring available for undergraduate and graduate students this summer

Submitted by Karin Westman

Writing Center Tutoring Session

This summer, the English department Writing Center is offering writing tutoring in multiple modalities for undergraduate and graduate students:

Synchronous in-person and online sessions

  • The center's summer schedule allows student writers to sign up for an in-person session in 122D English/Counseling Services Building or for an online video session. For an online video session, students should have technology that supports video conferencing — a computer with a camera and speaker/microphone.

Asynchronous sessions

  • The Writing Center's "Get Written Feedback" schedule allows student writers to submit their writing and receive written feedback from a writing consultant within 48 hours. Students should schedule submission of their writing on Mondays or Tuesdays so that feedback can be delivered to writers within the school week. Consultants will respond to issues of clarity, organization and development of content.

All writing tutoring sessions are by appointment and can be scheduled through the English department Writing Center website.

Summer tutoring sessions will run until Thursday, July 27.

Writing Center tutors provide feedback at any stage of the writing process to enable students to gain awareness of writing strategies; to improve writing assignments or professional writing; and to increase their sense of competence, confidence and ownership in writing.

Tutors can assist writers with a range of documents, including traditional essays, presentations and personal statements.

Additional information for instructors about writing support for students, including the Writing Center's Canvas module, is available from the resource page on the Writing Center's website.

The Writing Center is sponsored by the English department in the College of Arts and Sciences and by Student Governing Association through Student-Centered Tuition Enhancement funding.
