Pre-Professional Advising Center update

Submitted by Jeannie Brown Leonard

K-State's inaugural Pre-Professional Advising Center, serving students interested in the health professions, veterinary medicine and law, will open in time for the fall semester.

Located in the Berney Family Welcome Center, visitors are asked to enter on the north side of the building by the Career Center to access advisors in rooms 104-114. Students will schedule appointments with the pre-health and pre-law advisors using Navigate. We also are monitoring two email addresses: pre-health@k-state.edu and pre-law@k-state.edu

The Pre-Professional Advising Center advisors will help students explore professional school opportunities and guide comprehensive preparation for and completion of application materials. Students in any major or campus may declare a pre-professional subplan and be assigned to a pre-professional advisor. In addition, advisors will collaborate with the Office of Recruitment and Admission to offer prospective students information and insight on how K-State will help them achieve their professional school goals.

A number of active searches are in progress for key center staff, including the director, pre-law advisor and an advisor/recruitment coordinator. It will take several weeks for the center to be fully staffed and operational, but we look forward to ensuring current and prospective students have information and support. Events and updates will be shared via our website; note that this site is still under development.

Representatives of the new center will participate in the Resource Fair on Aug. 19. An open house and other fall events will be announced soon. Questions about the Pre-Professional Advising Center may be sent to Jeannie Brown Leonard, vice provost for student success, at brownleonard@k-state.edu
