Submitted by Clint Hafliger

Ben Counts has been hired by Recreational Services to serve as the eSports Club program coordinator and will start on June 13.

Counts, a native of Wickes, Arkansas, attended college at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, where he majored in health science and minored in psychology. After graduating in 2018, he went on to attend graduate school at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, where he pursued a master's in psychology.

During his time at Arkansas Tech, Counts got involved in the university's eSports club and coached the League of Legends team. He led the team to a winning record and national competitions.

In 2020, Counts was hired as the first full-time eSports coach at Highland Community College in northeast Kansas, where he was tasked with building up the school's eSports team for its inaugural season. During his time at Highland, Counts coached Rocket League, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Valorant and Overwatch teams in collegiate and semiprofessional leagues.
