American Society of Civil Engineers president to deliver Robert B. Thorn Lecture

Submitted by Trisha Brown

Dennis Truax, professor emeritus at Mississippi State University and president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE, is the featured speaker of the Robert B. Thorn Lecture Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Grand Ballroom of the K-State Student Union. The event is hosted by the K-State ASCE student chapter and the civil engineering department.

Truax will be discussing the role civil engineers will play in planning, designing, constructing and maintaining the sustainable infrastructure needed for a robust economy and higher standard of living. This has created an unprecedented demand for civil engineers that will continue to escalate over the next three decades. The changing professional landscape to address climate change, JEDI, sustainable building practices, limited resources, increasing urbanization and a shrinking workforce will amplify the significance of this profession. Truax will also address how the future civil engineer will play the role of a servant leader, a change agent and a professional.
