APDesign graduate Abbey Hebbert to open LARCP Colloquium

Submitted by Thom Jackson

The landscape architecture and regional & community planning department will present "Renewed purpose: Exploring adaptive reuse for quality, affordable housing in Kansas City, Kansas" virtually at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, as part of the 2022 LARCP Colloquium.

The colloquium features guest speaker, Abbey Hebbert, a 2021 Master of Regional and Community Planning graduate and recipient of the prestigious ARCC King Medal. Hebbert is a planner I with Confluence, a landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm in Kansas City, Missouri.

Hebbert will discuss how affordable housing comes in many shapes and sizes. This study explores opportunities to expand the affordable housing stock in Kansas City, Kansas, through the use of adaptive reuse practices. Using experiences from two case studies — Detroit, Michigan, and Rochester, New York, this report produces recommendations for the structure of adaptive reuse policy in Kansas City. This presentation will discuss Renewed Purpose, from beginning topic identification to final report production and lessons learned along the way.

The event is free and open virtually to the public by Zoom.
