Invite CARE into your classroom this spring

Submitted by Jessica Henault

As preparations for the spring 2022 semester get underway, the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, encourages you to consider including a prevention workshop as part of the curriculum. Ending violence requires the active commitment of every Wildcat. Opening the doors to these conversations is the first step.

CARE provides a wide variety of workshops that vary in topics and length:

20-minute presentations
• CARE 101

60- to 75-minute presentations, depending on class schedule
• Consent 101
• Reality of Sexual Violence
• Reality of Relationship Violence
• Stalking and Digital Harassment
• Healthy Relationships and Boundaries
• Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
• The Consequences of COVID-19: Sexual Violence and Gender Inequity

CARE also offers Wildcats Make a Pact, a 90-minute bystander intervention training that teaches participants how to safely intervene should they see behavior that puts others at risk for violence, victimization and/or perpetration. Once completed, participants are eligible to take the advanced bystander training, Bystander Intervention: Newest Research, Avenues for Advancement and Future Implications.

If there is a workshop topic you are interested in that is not listed, CARE is happy to create that content based on your needs. To inquire about a workshop and/or schedule one, please email CARE’s violence prevention specialist Jessica Henault.

Finally, CARE reminds students, faculty and staff that survivor advocates are available to meet with individuals who experience(d) sexual and interpersonal violence, stalking and sexual harassment. Survivor advocates are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can schedule an appointment or refer a student by emailing ksucare@k-state.edu, calling 785-532-6444, or stopping by 206 Holton Hall.
