Kansas Board of Regents September meeting university updates

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, the Board Governance Committee approved K-State's request to waive the enforcement of adequate security measure requirements for ticketed K-State Athletics events at Bramlage Coliseum with anticipated attendance of under 5,000 people.
The following items were included in the Thursday, Sept. 16, meeting.
Consent agenda
K-State received approval to amend the fiscal year 2023 capital improvement plan and to accept the program statements for construction of the Volleyball and Olympic Training Center and the indoor football practice facility.
The Regents adopted an updated resolution to acknowledge the newly appointed regents shall not have access to certain classified information protected by federal law. The resolution transfers the board's management control over certain classified information to a Security Executive Committee.
Discussion agenda
The Regents approved to amend the paid parental leave policy to include provisions from Gov. Kelly's executive order issued on July 6. Amendments include increasing parental leave from six to eight weeks for primary caregivers and from three weeks to four weeks for secondary caregivers and extending eligibility to foster parents.
K-State received approval to charge a reduced out-of-state tuition rate that is 150% of the resident tuition rate effective fall 2022 to full-time, domestic undergraduate students — first-time freshmen or transfer — from the state of Illinois.
The Regents approved K-State's request to expand the Dependent/Spouse Tuition Scholarship Program to include full-time — 0.9 FTE or above — employees on term appointments with at least five years of service at the university. If approved, the expanded policy will be effective for the spring 2022 term.
K-State received approval to award an honorary degree to Herman Mongrain Lookout, the master language teacher for the Osage Nation, at the fall 2021 Graduate School commencement ceremony.
