Levitt receives Davids-Dunham Award from College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee

Submitted by Marion Schweitzer

Rachel Levitt, teaching assistant professor in the gender, women, and sexuality studies department, was recently presented the Davids-Dunham Award by the College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee. The award is given in recognition of Levitt's excellence as a teacher and scholar and support of the mission of Kansas State University and the College of Arts and Sciences to promote diversity through teaching and scholarship.

Levitt's nominators commended Levitt for being a "fierce advocate for LGBT Kansans" and an "extraordinarily thoughtful and perceptive scholar, educator, and mentor and a dedicated champion for furthering diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice."

The College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee uses the Davids-Dunham award to celebrate faculty members who identify with underrepresented groups for their excellence in scholarship and faculty members who through their scholastic efforts support diversity at Kansas State University. The Davids-Dunham Award is named for Sharice Davids and Ann Dunham, both of whom represent Kansas, have contributed to a discipline included in the College of Arts and Sciences, and have made tremendous contributions to our society. Their work embodies the spirit of the candidates who win this award.
