Wilson selected as 2021 K-State Global Campus Extraordinary Student

Submitted by Grant Guggisberg

Linda Wilson, graduate student in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been selected as the  2021 K-State Global Campus Extraordinary Student.

The Extraordinary Student award recognizes an online education student who has overcome an obstacle in the path of their education and who demonstrates academic excellence, focus and career ambition in their studies at K-State.

Wilson is working toward a master's degree in psychology with an emphasis in organizational and industrial psychology while balancing care for her aging father, supporting her immediate family to include college-age children and navigating a career gap. She has used her creativity to adapt a course project to provide real-life pieces of training that benefit an elder-care organization as well as high school students. She demonstrates excellence in her quest to help others and give back to her community using the skills she has developed in her career and in her coursework at K-State.

"I am inspired by our online students who are often facing multiple personal challenges and still persevering toward their degree," said Karen Pedersen, dean of Global Campus. "I am pleased to honor Linda with this award and look forward to hearing more about her future success."

In the materials submitted for Wilson's nomination, it was noted that, "She shows an appreciation for learning more about the research on training and development and uses this new information to interpret and critique her experiences in the field and analyze what she could do differently in developing future training programs. She is a great participant in our online environment and also goes above and beyond by regularly attending our synchronous discussion sessions as well. I can always count on Linda to come prepared and to contribute to our discussion."
