K-State experts to host virtual panel discussion about careers in student affairs and academic advising
K-State students and staff have an opportunity to learn about extraordinary careers in student affairs and academic advising at an upcoming virtual panel discussion with experts from across the K-State campus.
"How did you get that job?" will feature several professionals who will share their career journeys into and through student affairs or academic advising in higher education. This panel discussion will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 11 via Zoom. Interested participants will receive a Zoom link upon registering with Cassy Llewelyn at email@example.com. This free event is sponsored by the department of special education, counseling and student affairs in the College of Education, the Career Center, Housing and Dining Services, and Student Success.
Near the end of the session, Christy Craft, professor and interim chair of the department of special education, counseling and student affairs in the College of Education, will share information about the college’s graduate programs in student affairs and academic advising, and Kevin Cook, associate director for departmental initiatives in Housing and Dining Services, will address graduate assistantship opportunities.
"People are often surprised to learn of the vast and fulfilling career paths available to professionals interested in serving college and university students outside of formal classroom settings," Craft said. "Our hope is that this panel discussion will highlight some of the variability in the field and will encourage others to consider careers in these areas."
