Legislative Update

The Kansas Legislature convened at the State Capitol on Monday, Jan. 11. The 165 newly elected members of the Kansas Senate and Kansas House of Representatives were sworn in to their respective chambers.

In the first week of the Kansas Legislature meeting, Gov. Laura Kelly will deliver the State of the State address in a virtual format at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12. Gov. Kelly will release her priorities and budget information for fiscal year 2022 and beyond.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in a joint meeting. The governor's budget director will deliver the details for fiscal years 2021, 2022 and years beyond.

The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2021 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at www.kslegislature.org/li/

The Office of Government Relations will again provide weekly Legislative Review Sessions through the remainder of the session to discuss the previous week and upcoming hearings and meetings. The first Legislative Review Session will be at noon Friday, Jan. 15, by Zoom. Zoom details are below. You will be required to sign in with your K-State eID and password to access the meeting.
