Second floor of Hale Library to open July 1

Submitted by Cailin Riley

Hale Library will be open to the public starting July 1. Initially, only the second floor will be open and patrons will need to enter the building by using the second-floor loggia entrance. The second floor will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on July 3 for the university holiday.

The services offered include access to the Library and IT help desks, printers, 32 computer stations and study seating. Course reserves also are available, but a 72-hour quarantine will be required for returned materials. Equipment checkout will not be available. Ask a Librarian and IT Help services are also available remotely.

Patrons visiting the library are required to wear a mask or facial covering and adhere to social distancing standards and signage in the library. Occupancy will follow the university's current mass gathering limitations, which is currently no more than 45 people.

Measures are also being taken to encourage social distancing, including spacing out furniture and restricting the number of available computer and printer stations. Some materials that were previously available for use, such as staplers and dry erase markers, have been removed from the public area for safety reasons. There will be increased cleaning and patrons will be provided with cleaning materials as well so they can clean study areas and equipment before each use.
