Carter achieves national certification

Submitted by Mary Rankin

David Carter, pollution prevention specialist with the Pollution Prevention Institute, engineering extension, received his national certification from RABQSA as an auditor for energy management systems established under ISO 50001. According to the RABQSA website, Carter is one of only 46 ISO 50001 certified auditors in the United States.

The international energy management system standard, ISO 50001, was finalized and distributed publicly in June 2011. Similar to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System standard and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard, the ISO 50001 standard is intended to provide organizations with a recognized framework for integrating energy performance into their management practices. It follows the plan-do-check-act model for continual improvement of the energy management system.
