Aspiring educators participate in annual literacy events

Submitted by Patrice Scott

The Kansas National Education Association Aspirating Educators of Kansas State University participated in two annual literacy events this year — Seasons Readings and Read Across America.

Seasons Readings was hosted at Bergman Elementary and Lee Elementary during the first week of December. At the Seasons Readings event, future teachers read stories about gingerbread characters and created crafts. Read Across America was hosted at Bergman Elementary in early February when K-State future teachers read books that focused on diverse characters and celebrated Black History Month.

These events are part of KNEA-AE's literacy outreach and are dependent upon volunteer readers, like those from the College of Education, and the teachers and librarians willing to host them.

The co-chairs who organized the events were elementary education majors Rylee Schrock and Jony Dahl. KNEA-AE thanks all participants and encourages students to consider volunteering next year, either as a co-chair or reader.
