Geology faculty and students present research at conference

A faculty member from the department of geology and several students presented at the 2011 Joint Meeting of the Geological Society of America's Rocky Mountain and Cordilleran sections May 18-20 in Logan, Utah.

  • Matt Brueseke, assistant professor of geology; Eric Whiting, May 2011 graduate in geology; Jason Kolb, senior in geology; and Zachary Hasten, master's student in geology; presented "Petrographic and geochemical characterization of granitoid and metamorphic basement rocks, Owyhee Mountains, ID."
  • Hasten, Brueseke and colleagues presented an invited poster, "Petrology and magmatic evolution of the Silver City district, Owyhee Mountains, ID."
  • Brueseke presented an invited talk, "Extensive middle-Miocene silicic magmatism in northeastern NV: the Jarbidge Rhyolite and its connection to the Cenozoic evolution of the northern Great Basin."
