Craig B. Parker lectures in Brussels on music by Reena Esmail
Craig B. Parker, associate professor in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, presented his paper, "Diverse Musical Traditions in Recent Compositions by Reena Esmail," at the College Music Society International Conference July 12 in Brussels, Belgium.
His paper focused on Esmail's oratorio for choir, Baroque orchestra, sitar and tabla, "This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity," and her "Khirkiyaan (Windows): Three Transformations for Brass Quintet. "Khirkiyaan" was written for and premiered on Nov. 29, 2017, at All Faiths Chapel by the Kansas State University Faculty Brass Quintet during Esmail's residency at K-State.
