Exterior formation of central tower on university's new Feed Technology Innovation Center; work ends Saturday

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

This afternoon the exterior formation begins on the O.H. Kruse Feed Technology Innovation Center's nearly completed 150-foot tower.

Construction crews will begin finalizing the slipforming of the center's 150-foot tall tower. Slipforming is a construction method in which concrete is continuously poured to form a tall structure. Slipforming of the tower began about 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, and has continued uninterrupted for 24 hours a day. It will be completed during the weekend.

Construction of adjoining structures, made from pre-cast concrete, will begin in late October.

The new facility is at 1980 Kimball Ave. It is a joint effort between the university's departments of grain science and industry and animal sciences and industry, and will significantly enhance the research capacity for students and faculty in both departments.

The O. H. Kruse Feed Technology Innovation Center is anticipated to begin operating in spring 2013. Much of the equipment in the facility and a significant portion of the funding for the project has been contributed by university donors through the KSU Foundation.
