K-State Libraries opens event series with Jane Butel

Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, K-State Libraries will host "A Conversation with Jane Butel" in the Hale Library Hemisphere Room.

This will be a special opportunity to get a taste of the forthcoming donation by renowned cookbook author and creator of “Tex-Mex” cooking Jane Butel. An intimate conversation about Butel’s career and her connections to K-State, the morning's talk will be moderated by Andrew Zender, editor of the K-Stater magazine, and is free and open to the public.

Butel's experiences in marketing, entrepenurship, broadcast journalism and the culinary arts should make the event of interest to a wide variety of K-State faculty, staff and students. Following the program, attendees can enjoy refreshments in the fifth floor gallery and visit the special collections reading room to view papers and other items from Butel's gift.

K-State Libraries has long acknowledged major gifts and acquisitions with lectures, exhibits and other events. Starting this fall -- with "A Conversation with Jane Butel" -- these events will be grouped in a series highlighting how the materials will be used. Titled "Unboxed: Out of the Collections of K-State Libraries," the series will celebrate recent acquisitions and emphasize the lasting practical value these items have to students, scholars, hobbyists and those in related industries.

Questions about this or any K-State Libraries event may be directed to Darchelle Martin, events and programs coordinator.
