Psychology graduate student completes summer institute in Germany

Submitted by Kristi Harper

W. Trey Hill, doctoral student in psychology, recently completed the Summer Institute on Bounded Rationality at the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition. This summer institute, which focuses on Foundations of an Interdisciplinary Decision Theory, took place July 3-10 at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin.

The institute provides a platform for genuinely interdisciplinary research, bringing together young scholars from psychology, biology, philosophy, economics and other social sciences. Its focus was on decision-making in the wild – how cognition adapts to real-world decision-making environments. One of its aims is to provide participants a deeper understanding of the way humans come to grips with a fundamentally uncertain world, with an emphasis on applied contexts such as social interactions, medicine, justice, business and politics.
