U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies faculty receives doctorate from K-State

Submitted by Andrew G. Long

Bruce Stanley, assistant professor at the School of Advanced Military Studies, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, has received his doctoral degree in security studies from K-State.

Stanley received his degree in security studies  at the May 11 Graduate School commencement ceremony.

Security studies is an interdisciplinary program with a core curriculum in political science and history. It began accepting doctoral students in 2007 and one part of its mission is to provide opportunities for the faculty of the School of Advanced Military Studies and and Command General Staff College to pursue a doctoral degree. Stanley is the first graduate of the program to take advantage of that opportunity.

Stanley's dissertation examines the role of private security contractors in foreign policy. His research has made news with a feature on his dissertation by HuffingtonPost.com and attention given by Feral Jundi, feraljundi.com, a contracting industry website.
