Prestigious award renamed in honor of Dean Holen

Submitted by Patrice Scott

College of Education Dean Mike Holen was honored by the National Academic Advising Association when one of its most prestigious awards was renamed after him and his efforts in  bringing the premier academic advising organization's executive office to K-State.

Charlie Nutt, National Academic Advising Association executive director, said the board voted at its mid-year meeting last week to rename the association's Pacesetter Award the Michael Holen Pacesetter Award for Academic Advising. The board feels strongly that Dean Holen's support of the association was central to its success.

The award was established in the 1990s to recognize the chief executive officer, academic affairs officer or student affairs officer who has done the most to support and enhance the academic advising experiences of students at a university or college internationally. Nutt said this award is viewed as a major award in higher education.

Directly attributed to the quality and quantity of programs, membership in the National Academic Advising Association has grown by 357 percent since the association arrived at K-State in 1990.
