College of Architecture, Planning & Design selects peer educators
Thirty-seven students in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, at Kansas State University have been selected as peer educators for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Peer educators are upper-level APDesign students who serve as mentors to first-year students in the college. Teams of three to four peer educators are assigned to each first-year design studio to provide support to students throughout the fall semester. Activities relating to time management, goal setting and leveraging strengths are planned and facilitated as part of the Studio Seminar course taken by all first-year APDesign students. Peer educators also provide desk critiques in studios at least twice each month.
"As an incoming first-year APDesign student, the projects and workload seemed a little intimidating," said Julia Kappelman, second-year landscape architecture student and new peer educator. "Being able to talk to and seek advice from students who understood exactly what I was going through, made my first semester much easier."
