Geography faculty, students present at regional meeting

Faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students from the geography department participated in the annual 2016 Meeting of the Great Plains-Rocky Mountain Division of the American Association of Geographers Oct. 21-22 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

The following faculty and students made presentations at the meetings:

Austin Braget, graduate student, presented "Time Series Analysis of Phenometrics and Long-Term Vegetation Trends for the Flint Hills Ecoregion using Moderate Resolution Satellite Imagery." 

Matthew M. Brooks, graduate student, presented "Hispanic Pathways to the U.S. Midwest: Past and Present." 

Gabriel Granco, graduate student, presented "Climate Change Impacts on Biofuel Production: The Case of Sugarcane Suitability Areas in the Brazilian Cerrado." Granco also served as chair for session "Climate."

John A. Harrington Jr., professor, presented "Precipitation Skewness: A Comparison of Marine and Continental Locations." 

J.M. Shawn Hutchinson, associate professor, and colleagues Stacy L. Hutchinson and Muluken Muche presented "Phenology-Adjusted Dynamic Curve Numbers for Improving Hydrologic Modeling." 

Thomas Larsen, graduate student, presented "Learning Progressions for Places and Regions: Building a Research Coordination Network." 

Hayden C. Murphey, graduate student, presented "Recommendations for Incorporating Climate Change into K-12 Civics Curriculums." 

Francesco Orsi, assistant professor, presented "Designing Cities that Favor Easy Access to a Center and Green Space: A Modelling Approach." Orsi also served as chair for the session "Urban."

Takuto Urano, undergraduate student; Colin Bailey, undergraduate student; and Jida Wang, assistant professor presented "Progress of Global Water Inventory: Freshwater and Saline Lakes." 

Jakob Whitson, undergraduate student, presented "Planform Channel Dynamics of the Chobe River and Zambezi River within the Zambezi Wetlands."
