Confucius Institute offers Chinese language classes in the summer

Submitted by Max Lu

The K-State Confucius Institute is offering a number of practical and fun Mandarin Chinese language classes in the summer for children and adults. Both beginners and experienced learners are welcome. We also have parent and child classes in which one or both parents and their children can learn the language together.

Classes are open to anyone at K-State and local community members interested in learning the Chinese language. Students will be placed in different levels based on their Chinese language proficiency.

The noncredit classes complement the Chinese language classes offered by K-State's modern languages department. Three sections are planned for both children's and adult classes:

Children's classes, starting on May 2, June 10 and July 11:

Level 1 — 8:30-10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays

Level 2 — 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays

Adult classes, starting on May 16, June 20, and July 25:

Level 1 — 10:30 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays

Level 2 — 8:30-10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

Parent and child classes, class time determined with parents:

It also is possible to adjust children's and adult class times based on demands. For example, some of the classes may meet in the evenings instead.

All classes will meet twice a week for five weeks. The fee for each course is $100, which covers some instructional materials.

For more information about the classes, please contact the Confucius Institute at confucius@k-state.edu or by phone at 785-5323680. To enroll, please visit the UFM Community Learning Center's website or call 785-539-8763.

Launched in April 2015, the Confucius Institute aims to promote, enhance and elevate understanding of the Chinese language and culture, as well as create exchanges between Chinese and U.S. academic institutions and communities.
