Geomorphologist to speak on agricultural soil erosion
Stanley Trimble, retired UCLA geography professor, will present the colloquium, "Complex Movement of Sediment from Past Agricultural Soil Erosion in the Eastern U.S." at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Leadership Studies Building's Town Hall. The colloquium is open to the public.
Trimble is the author of the award-winning 2013 book, "Historical Agriculture and Soil Erosion in the Upper Mississippi Valley Hill Country."
The colloquium and his book have been described as "... an epoch-defining work on the evolution of landscapes under the influences of changing agricultural practices and on the episodic movement of storage of fluvial sediment. He includes the human side of the story, describing the social and individual actions that triggered pervasive watershed disturbance with unintended but profound impact on those living an working on the landscape ... an exemplification of true geography ... a remarkable work."
