Risk and decision-making presentation by Edward Cokely, University of Oklahoma professor April 4

Edward Cokely, presidential research professor and associate professor of psychology at the University of Oklahoma, will present "Understanding Risk: Promoting Informed Decision-Making" at 3:30 p.m. April 4 in 498 Bluemont Hall. This presentation is part of the psychological sciences department's colloquium series.

Cokely is an expert in the psychology of skilled and informed decision making, specializing in user-friendly decision assessment, and support technologies and risk communication. He serves as co-founding faculty in the National Institute for Risk and Resilience and director of the university's Decision Psychology Lab. Cokely also has served as affiliated research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development since 2007.

Cokely's research has been continuously grant-supported since completion of his doctoral degree at Florida State University in 2007. He is the recipient of 15 research and teaching honors, including a National Science Foundation early CAREER Award in 2013, the American Psychological Association's Division 21 Best Applied Psychology Paper Award in 2012 and the Research Prize of the University of Granada in 2015.

Cokely also is an inclusion-diversity advocate, associate editor of the Judgment and Decision Making journal and co-founder of the RiskLiteracy.org project.
