Farewell reception for First Folio on Sunday, Feb. 28

After a monthlong visit to Kansas State and Manhattan, Shakespeare's First Folio will soon move on to its next location. A farewell reception will take place from 4-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Beach Museum of Art.

The reception is free and open to the public.

"Parting is not such sweet sorrow but downright bitter if next week you discover that you've missed seeing Shakespeare's First Folio at the Beach Museum," said Don Hedrick, professor of English. "Procrastinators can join a fun folio friends' fond farewell on Sunday."

Kara Northway, associate professor of English, concurs.

"I hope Kansans will come experience this brush with 400-year-old history for themselves before it's too late," Northway said. "After Feb. 28, the rest is silence."

The farewell reception will include brief readings from the folio and the announcement of the winners for a sonnet competition. Refreshments will be served.

"First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare," on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library, has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor, and by the support of Google.org, Vinton and Sigrid Cerf, and other generous donors.
