Ankerson named guest editor for Journal of Interior Design

Submitted by Thom Jackson

Katherine Ankerson, professor and department head of interior architecture & product design in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design has been appointed a guest editor for the virtual issue of the Journal of Interior Design.

The Journal of Interior Design is a scholarly, refereed publication dedicated to issues related to the design of the interior environment. Scholarly inquiry representing the entire spectrum of interior design theory, research, education and practice is invited. Submissions are encouraged from educators, designers, anthropologists, architects, historians, psychologists, sociologists, or others interested in interior design. The journal is also the only journal specializing in built spaces.

"This virtual issue of the Journal of Interior Design highlights design of the environment to support the needs of our aging population. Age-related ailments are often characterized by a physical condition, a mental condition, or an acquired or developing disease or ailment; and each affects how the person perceives and uses their environment. Designers integrate information from the body of research knowledge to enhance the design of quality environments for all people, and this issue's focus on interiors experienced by the elderly recognizes the aging demographic as one that is steadily and rapidly growing." — Ankerson, from the virtual Journal of Interior Design.
