Italian without Words: Italian filmmaker to show documentary, lead workshop

The modern languages department, along with the Office of International Programs' Vernon Larson Lecture Series, will host Italian director and nonverbal communication expert Luca Vullo for a day of Italian without Words.
Vullo, whose most recent documentary, "Influx on Italian emigration to the U.K.," was shown at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, will screen a trailer his documentary, "La voce del corpo," or "The Voice of the Body." The film, in Italian with English subtitles, is a light-hearted historical investigation of the movements, choreography and gestures often associated with Italians, and in particular Vullo's fellow Sicilians. The screening will take place at 10 a.m. in K-State Student Union's Forum Hall, followed by a Q-and-A with the director and an interactive workshop on the art of the Italian gesture at 11:30 a.m. in Room 227 of the Union. No previous knowledge of Italian is required.
As the director of the documentary "La voce del corpo" and a sought-after presenter on Italian stereotypes and the art of the gesture, Vullo has been an invited guest to numerous American universities and colleges, most recently San Diego State University, Middlebury College, Stanford University and Chapman College, as well as organizations throughout the world. He has been featured in media in the U.S., Germany, Italy and the U.K., and his work on Italian nonverbal communication and the deaf has appeared on the BBC. A native of Caltanissetta Sicily, Italy, Vullo lives and works in London.
