Today is the Great American Smokeout

Submitted by Human Capital Services - Benefits

As K-Staters continue to focus on holistic wellness, we must look at the physical wellness of our bodies. Nov. 19 is the Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This day presents a great opportunity to begin the journey to quit smoking.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that if you are a smoker, quitting can be the single most important step you take to protect your health and the health of your loved ones. Taking the steps to stop smoking can be difficult but there are resources available to help you kick the addiction.

Benefit-eligible employees have the accessibility of the Kansas HealthQuest's program, Quit For Life. This free program includes:

  • Access to WebCoach, a private, online community where you can complete activities, watch videos, track your progress and join in discussions with others in the program.
  • Easy-to-use printed Quit Guide that you can reference in any situation to help you stick with your quitting plan.
  • Recommendations on type, dose and duration of nicotine replacement or medication if appropriate — including patch, gum, bupropion or Chantix.
  • Free nicotine replacement therapy — patch/gum — mailed directly to your home if appropriate.
  • Unlimited toll-free access to Quit Coaches, who offer as much or as little support as you need.

Not in a position at K-State that is benefits-eligible? Other great resources are available to help with stopping tobacco use:
