Mindful Writing Practice with Paul Maxfield

Submitted by Erica Sponberg

Mindful writing practice used to externalize stress

Attend Mindful Writing Practice from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in 112 Leadership Studies Building.

The workshop will be presented by Paul Maxfield, a doctoral student in counselor education with a background in creative writing. His primary work has been with recovering addicts and their families. Maxfield has used narrative and creative arts therapies in individual and group settings.

In this presentation, Maxfield will share a mindful writing practice used to externalize stress by describing it as a character or creature that attendees have known and lived with for a long time. Once writers have made this companion visible through creative writing, they can dialog with it and redefine the relationship with stress in a more positive way.
