Participants needed for research on parent-teen communication following divorce

Submitted by Mindy Markham

Mindy Markham, associate professor in the School of Family Studies and Human Services, and Becky DeGreeff, assistant professor of communication studies, are currently conducting a study to investigate how divorced nonresidential parents and their adolescent children communicate, including their use of technology to communicate with one another.

Divorced parents and adolescents whose parents have been divorced are currently being sought to take part in an interview for this research project. Please feel free to share this information with others who may fit the criteria for participation.

Parents may be eligible to participate in this interview if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are divorced.
  • You have a child from that marriage and have at least one child between 12-17 years old.
  • You have physical custody of your child less than 50 percent of the time.

Children may be eligible to participate in this interview if you meet the following criteria:

  • Your parents are divorced.
  • You are between 12-17 years old.

Interviews can take place face-to-face, by phone or by video call, such as Skype. Parents will receive $30 and adolescents will receive a $10 for their participation in the interviews.

Contact Markham at mmarkham@k-state.edu or DeGreeff at bdegreeff@k-state.edu to participate or for further information.

All information provided will remain confidential and participation is voluntary. This research study has been approved by the Kansas State University Institutional Review Board.
