Study abroad spring 2012 faculty leader orientations

Submitted by Rebecca Murrow

Two years ago, the K-State office of international programs implemented a policy that requires all faculty members who lead group study abroad programs to attend a short faculty leader orientation. The purpose of this orientation is to discuss important topics such as students' physical and mental health, behavioral problems, legal/liability issues, accommodating students with disabilities, participant selection criteria, developing an emergency response plan, etc.

Please note that program proposals will not be approved until faculty leaders have completed this training. The university attorneys office, the office of student life, disability support services, counseling services, and the Lafene travel clinic have all been invited to present information and facilitate discussion.

The orientation will be offered each semester. For those faculty members, who have already attended the orientation, you are not required to attend again. Attendance is requried only once for faculty who have not attended an orientation and plan to lead future faculty-led study abroad programs.

Please RSVP to Rebecca Murrow, rebm@k-state.edu, study abroad faculty services coordinator, regarding which time you plan to attend.
