Exercise program opportunity for adults 18-40 to lose weight, get fit and participate in research
The Functional Intensity Training Lab in the department of kinesiology is currently offering an eight-week exercise training intervention. The study is run by Katie Heinrich, assistant professor, along with Bryan Heinrich, CrossFit program director; Christian Larson, instructor; Pratik Patel, dietitian and master's student; Brian Sanborn and Ben Skutnik, master's students; and Jennifer Lanzer, Adam Knoll, Josh O’Neal, Nathanael Fehl and Anna Clayton, undergraduate assistants.
The exercise intervention begins in February and lasts eight weeks with participants receiving training three days per week. Spots are limited and the cost is free, so see if you are eligible to participate!
Eligible participants will be randomized into one of two exercise interventions. The first is a standard aerobic and resistance training intervention that will be monitored by kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students. The second is a CrossFit intervention that will be administered by certified CrossFit instructors. Each participant will have the opportunity to participate in this research study approved by the Kansas State University Institutional Review Board. Each participant will undergo a series of tests and measurements that include:
- Body composition testing including a DEXA scan
- Cardiovascular fitness testing with a VO2 Max test
- Metabolic fitness testing with blood glucose measurements
- A battery of fitness tests assessing current fitness levels
