K-State's GPS program seeks guides for the 2011-2012 school year
K-State First's Guide to Personal Success (GPS) program is seeking K-State faculty/staff/graduate students interested in serving as a guide for two to four first-year students during the 2011-2012 school year. Since the start of the GPS program at K-State in 2009, 700 first-year students have been matched with a GPS guide.
As a GPS guide you will likely be matched with three to four mentees this year. The purpose of a guide is to serve as a professional point of reference for mentees throughout their first year at K-State. You will not replace the students' academic advisor. Rather, you would share information outside of academics and class selection. Sharing your knowledge of campus resources, providing support and feedback and engaging in intentional conversations with your mentee are all components of serving the university as a guide.
We ask that guides connect with their mentees a minimum of three times per semester. Enjoying lunch in the residence halls, grabbing coffee at the library and bowling at the union are all examples of how guides have connected with their mentees in the past. This year the GPS program will also provide some opportunities for mentees and guides to connect at GPS hosted events throughout the year.
If you would like to sign-up to be a part of this dynamic program, simply fill out the survey and you will officially be registered to serve as a 2011-2012 guide. Those who complete the registration survey will receive more information about program dates and details.
