Vehicle fire at K-State Parking Garage

At 12:27 p.m. on Feb. 26, the K-State Police Department and Manhattan Fire Department were dispatched to the K-State parking garage for a report of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the third floor on the west side of the structure. Upon reaching the third floor, crews found a vehicle with fire coming from the engine compartment that K-State Parking Services personnel were working to extinguish with fire extinguishers. Crews continued to use fire extinguishers to contain the fire until the fire department's brush truck arrived on scene to extinguish the fire.

Four fire apparatus and 11 personnel responded to the fire. There were two individuals treated and released on scene by Riley County Emergency Medical Service for smoke inhalation. 17th street north of Anderson Avenue was closed throughout the incident. The vehicle, a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, was a total loss and is valued at $2,000. The fire cause is listed as undetermined.

K-State Parking Services officials advised the parking garage is safe and did not sustain any damage.
