K-State Model United Nations team competes in Chicago

Submitted by Krista Bohnenblust

The K-State Model United Nations team participated at the 25th American Model UN Conference Nov. 22-25 in Chicago. More than 1,400 students from 80 colleges and universities attended the conference.

The K-State team represented Congo, Malaysia and Romania. The 33 K-State students who competed at the conference included seven international students. John Fliter, associate professor, and Carla Martinez Machain, assistant professor, both from political science, served as advisors for the team.

Although the conference emphasizes the learning experience of Model United Nations rather than the competition for awards, our delegations fared well. All three K-State delegations won position paper awards and Congo won an award for Exceptional Representation as a Party to the Dispute on the 1961 Historical Security Council.
